The economy

Sir, — K. Fea promotes the idea that employment be guaranteed to all and that material equity be “secured.” I suggest that the Government is already attempting to do this at everybody’s expense. Under the Marxist progressive tax system, those who are most valuable to New Zealand are being penalised through heavy direct and indirect taxes on the pretext of fair and equitable redistribution to those in need. (The most needy are the taxpayers.) I totally agree with Ivan McAllister’s idea that the free market sorts out who is worth what. — Yours, etc., PETER JOHNSON. January 19, 1981.
