Yachtsman lost
NZPA London , The boat belonging to a missing Atlantic oarsman, Kenneth Kerr, has been seen off the coast of Denmark, it was disclosed on Sunday. The empty 4m Bass Conqueror was seen about 70 miles off the Danish coast by a coastal vessel. A spokesman for the British Department of Trade said that the coaster alerted the Norwegian rescue co-ordina-
tion centre., and a Coastguard [vessel was reported to be on its way to pick up the boat. I The man who monitored [the 28-year-old Kerr’s progress across ,-.the -■.Atlantic, David Scrimgeour, ah Edinburgh publican, said that .the discovery .of the boat-was a sad ending. “Kenneth must have gone a long time ago. Even if he had survived, his food would have run out at the beginning of October.” Kerr’s last radio broadcast was on August 16 last year, when he reported being 500 miles off the coast of Ireland and at the centre of a severe storm. Kerr, a petty officer in the Royal Navy’s submarine division, embarked on his 2100mile trip in May last year, from St Johns in Newfoundland.
