Perth Cup seized
PA Hamilton Customs officials have seized the Perth Cup won by the galloper, Magistrate, from the Morrinsville owner-trainer, lan Steffert. They took the cup, valued in the Perth* Cup racebook at $7OOO, from Mr Steffert on his arrival at Auckland Airport on Monday.
According to Mr Steffert, he was told that he would be liable for the cost of having the cup valued by a jeweller as well as a 20 per cent duty before his trophy could be released.
