Rape of hitch-hiker

PA Auckland A Glen Eden man has pleaded guilty in the District Court at Henderson to a charge of rape and a charge of indecent assault on a woman. He was remanded in custody to the High Court for sentence on February 20. Judge M. J. A. Brown granted interim suppression of his name.

The prosecutor, Sergeant J. Bradley, said the defendant had picked up a woman, threatened her with a gun, and taken her to a Kingsland factory and raped her. The next day the defendant picked up a hitch-hiker and indecently assaulted her. When .she began to cry h/ let her go. The Judge said it was a classic case of the dangers of hitch-hiking.
