Sprint car title to Butterworth
PA Wellington S u p e r b machinery, matched by driving ability let Auckland’s Barry Butterworth add the sprint car title to his four national midget car championships at the Te Marua speedway on Saturday night. the third-lap while the track was still wet. He finished ' with 41 points, to win the title trophy and $lOOO. He was five points clear of Mike Allen (Auckland) in his new American Chevy, and Wellington’s Trevor Shields, one of the Te Marua promoters, was third in his ancient car.
It was Wellington’s', first placing in the championship. Final L- placings: Butterworth, 41 points, 1; Allen. 36, 2; Shields 29, 3; P. (Christchurch) and K. .Bertram (Auckland), 25, (equal) 4.
