Consistent Ay Em picked at Hokitika today

Special correspondent Greymouth The consistent Riccarton-trained Ay Em, looks to have a grand chance of improving his record in the Hokitika Gup, feature race, and first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Westland Racing Club’s meeting today.

Ay Em, which won at Timaru late in December and was narrowly beaten by Taieri Special at Karow and Doimar at Reefton in subsequent starts, will relish the rock-hard conditions that seem likely. . His front-run-ning tacitcs are well suited to the 1200 m right -handed Hokitika course. The in-form jockey, Kevin Morton, hat the mcur'- on Colada and the combination will be a big threat. Colada has looked unlucky in her starts at Reefton and Kumara and she is a past winner on the Hokitika course.

The Westport galloper, Gaelic Bid. is another which was allowed to miss Kumara after the four-yet-r-old had run a splendid race to finish third at Reefton, while Ray Harris requires Brutus to show him some kind of form: before he is prepared to take him to Trentham for the George Adams. Sharebroker and Gold Refrain look a likely combination in the second leg, the Dominion Handicap. Sharebroker holds the track record a + Hokitika for the distance and was only just caught by Gold Refrain at Kumara on Saturday. The two look likely to fight it out again with, Sharebroker gaining some pull in the Weights. Hi Roona is resuming after a short spell and may require a run or two. David Peake has the mount on former northern sprinter, Arvalant, which may well have been prepared specially for this event. He will be suited by the right-handed track.
