Cigarette costs man $6000
NZPA London A man who bet his wife 2500 pounds (about $6000) that he could stop smoking from Christmas to New Year’s Day lost with just three hours to go. “I suppose you could call it the most expensive smoke of all time,” said Bob Hannington, aged 41, normally a two-packs-a-day smoker. "Even though I lost the bet I don’t think I did too badly. I didn’t crack up until New Year’s Eve when I was at a party. I couldn’t take it anv longer.” His wife, Jean, who wins a car worth the amount of the bet because her husband smoked, said: “I must admit he lasted longer than I expected, but I knew I was on a winner as soon as he made the bet.”
