Kieran McKee named captain of Canty side

Kieran McKee, who recently set a New Zealand record of 4.90ni in the pole vault, has been named captain of the senior men’s section of the Canterbury track and field team which will contest the Dorrie Leslie Trophy against Wellington at Queen Elizabeth If Park on January 17. Khalid Mohammed will captain the junior men and Anne-Marie Keown will captain the women. A feature of the team is ‘he return to interprovincial competition of the former island junior sprint champion, Joe Leota, who has been injured. He will partner Evan Peterson in both senior 100 and 200 cm. The team, announced by the convener of selectors, Mr Valdemars Briedis, is’a particularly strong one and must be favoured to win.
