No Response fancied in Trotting Free-for-all
No Response, now close to his best looks likely to win his second Trotting Free-for-all at Timaru today.
RACE 3
RACE 6
No Response beat About Now and Our One in the Timaru Trotting Club’s feature two years ago as a seven-year-old, a year when he carried all before him, winning twelve races from sixteen starts, culminating in the 1979 Inter-Dominion Trotting Championship. The nine-year-old ended a frustrating run of “outs” since that 1979 season, easily winning the Stewards’ Mile at Addingotn on New Year’s Day, his first success for some 21 months. It should have been two wins in the Canterbury Park Cup last Monday. However, luckless in the running, No Response stormed home from last on the turn to all but collar About Now. The Hodgen's Surprise gelding has drawn well in at No. 2 today. His toughest rival, Hano Direct, has drawn No. 7. Hano Direct broke when in front in No Response's Stewards’ Handicap, but went a better race for a close third to About Now in the Canterbury Park Cup, a run which should have her close to peak here. Kate’s Return has struck a purple patch recently and should be close up today also.
