Coal exports
Sir, — It is alarming to read of our politicians hawking New Zealand coal around the world as though it was a waste by-product, whereas it is a valuable non-renewable source of energy. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Fiji and Mexico are among some of the countries to be approached to name their price for this valuable commodity. While it is painfully obvious to all thinking people that energy in any form is of vital importance to our future and that of our children we are at present witnessing a government which in its frantic endeavor to make a fast buck, is prepared to "exploit” our natural resources, whether it be native forests, Coromandel farms, hydro-power or coal. Fortunately, no longterm contracts have been signed and by the wall of God and the votes of the people the Government’s plans will be thwarted in 1981. — Yours, etc., JOHN. J. FORSTER. December 28, 1980.
