Rings regained
A Blenheim woman, Mrs M. M. Waldron, regained her five valuable rings yesterday. Mrs Waldron and her husband, Mr Steven Waldron, drove to Christchurch to collect the rings and to pay a $5OO reward to Mr Laurie Sandos, who found them with his new metal detector. “We are glad the saga is over. It was blown out of all proportion by some parts of the news media,” said Mr Waldron yesterday. Mrs Waldron lost the
rings, which are valued between $4500 and $5OOO, during a roadside stop between Hinds and Ran* gitata on December 19. Using his metal detector, Mr Sandos found the rings less than 70 metres from where Mr Waldron had parked his car, and after less than half an hour of searching. The rings were insured. Mr Waldron withdrew his claim for the loss of the rings yesterday, but still awaits the insurance company’s decision on whether it will pay out on the $5OO reward.
