Taxation policy
Sir, —P. Murphy (December 27) has difficulty understanding a point of view which associates “bludging” with a .loss'of individual dignity under capitalism’s ‘.‘free enterprise.” One can only restate the, view, in different words. •:Capitalism’s ' concen--4 tration and’’ exploitation of wealth necessarily reduces the great majority of hardworking people to pawn-like roles, with no real voice in decision making. The loss of identity with “the system” involves a loss of selfrespect, since role. and selfrespect in a functioning society are synonymous. The moral decline (including “bludging”) simply follows the decline in the individual’s belief that he or she is. of significance or even relevant. I maintain, that the dictatorship of the giant corporations ’ inevitably produces the “bludger’s” loss of faith. — Yours, etc.,
