Dr I. Hulme-Moir
The son of a former Bishop of Nelson died in Kenya on Christmas Eve. He was Dr lan Hulme-Moir, who was a surgeon with the New Zealand Church Missionary Society. He was 42.
He was bn the staff of the Kilimanj afo Christian Medical Centre in Tanzania. He died in Nairobi where he had been flown after contracting hepatitis. The funeral will be held in Moshi, Tanzania, today. Dr . Hulme-Moir had been in Tanzania since 1975 specialising in jaw and facial surgery and pediatrics. Previously he had lectured in surgery at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and until his departure for Tanzania had been a surgical tutor at Wellington Hospital. He was, a member of. the
Council of the East Africa Association of Surgeons and had been working on the production of a pediatric surgical manual for Tanzania with financial assistance from Corso in New Zealand. Dr Hulme-Moir was head of surgery at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, a 320-bed hospital which serves an area populated by more than a million people.
Dr Hulme-Moir is survived by his wife, Helen, who is a daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Ardrey, of Wellington, and five children, all of whom have been with their parents in Tanzania. A memorial service, for Dr Hulme-Moir will be held in Christchurch Cathedral at 1.15 p.m. tomorrow. -
