Get the Rent appeals at Taranaki today
Special correspondent New Plymouth
Get the Rent, whose best form has been on softer tracks, could be the one to beat in the Alston Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s twilight meeting at New Plymouth today. Get the Rent won on the track earlier in the season and was successful more recently on his home tracK, Hawera.
The course, which was water-logged on Friday, has made a remarkable recovery but with further showers predicted it would soon become heavy.
Floodlight is likely to improve further with his first day run and he will be among the leading chances, but newcomer Caro Muro, providing the track is not puggy, could be a better prospect. Royal Intrigue, Spanish Crest, Fagan’s Boy, Nearpetual and Soupir could be the pick of the others.
Joro Mitech was a convincing winner on the first day when the ground was firm. Regardless of the conditions today he should be a threat again in the second leg, the Pukeiti Handicap, as he gave the impression he would improve with his first-day outing. < , Innes Rich, Kitcat, Mirikau Lass, Torquay and Caram could be the pick of the others.
