How you rate
Research has shown that the most effective response when standing iip for yourself is an assertive one. An overly anxious reaction to such situations results in avoidance. This means that people can easily take advantage of you. But being too agressive can prove equally unhelpful because it antagonises others, often unnecessarily. To score, award 5 points for each (a), re-
sponse, 3 points for each sponse and 1 point for (b) each (C) response. This gives a possible maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 12. How You Rate: — 12 - 24: You seem to be generally anxious when confronted with this type of situation. Practise asserting yourself by rehearsing the dialogue of a possible exchange in advance.
25-45: You appear to be able to assert yourself well in most situations. V/ork ouf which situations cause you undue' anxiety, and avoid avoiding them, 46 - plus: This high score suggests that you respond too agressively. Often, this will lead to unnecessary . rows and needless conflict, . You would do better to be quietly assertive.
