‘Circus’ in Square today
A baboon, camel, elephant, and llamas will Join Christchurch shoppers in Cathedral Square today. The circus animals will bte taking part in the Canterbury Promotnon Council’s "C’mon Canterbury” campaign. The week-long campaign wiU open in the Square at 9 a.m. and is designed to boost membership of the council. The animals will be one of several displays in the Square until 5 p.m. Between midday and 2 p.m., personalities including “Miss Canterbuiy” (Carol Meyer) and the
Wizard will try to ride Sheba, the elephant, and Hippie, the camel. Children will be able to loin a tug-of-war with Sheba at 4 p.m. ' , The displays and animals will be at New Brighton Mall at 10 a.m. tomorrow. The first 100 new members of the council will be able to choose free tickets to various cultural and sports acitivities and amenities. , A staff member of the council said that it was hoped to attract “all categories” of people to the council. Subscriptions range
from $lO for individuals to $lOO for public companies. The fees are used to meet the administration costs of the council.
