Writer’s $9000 award
PA Wellington The Wellington writer, Fiona Kidman, has been awarded the $9OOO Scholarship in Letters, the. Minister for the Arts (Mr Higher) announced yesterday. She would use the scholarship to wo~k on another novel, Mr Highet said. The author of the recently published novel, “A Breed of Women,” Fiona Kidman has afeo written several collections of poetry, and has another novel about to be published.
Mr Highet said that the Literary Fund had given two awards for achievement, each valued at $5OO, this year.
One has been given to John Weir, rector of St Patrick’s College, Wellington, for editing the Collected Poems of James K. Baxter, published by the Oxford Press. The other award has been given to Sam Hunt, of Wellington, to mark the publication by Penguin of his collected poems.
