Jail for assault

PA Auckland A “murderous assault." on his wife led to a man being sentenced to nine months imprisonment when he appeared before Judge Nicholson in the District Court at Auckland. He is John Ashcroft Hall, aged 55, a war pensioner, of Onehunga, who had previously . pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to injure. In sentencing Hall, the Judge said that he had stabbed his wife in the neck with a kitchen knife. He attempted to stab her again, but fortunately missed her. Hall was intoxicated at the time. His history showed he had a longstanding problem of addiction to alcohol, which he was not at this stage motivated to tackle.
