$15,000 race at Riccarton
A race, carrying $15,000 in prize money and catering for fillies and mares only, will be run on the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting at Riccarton on January 31 next year. The distance of the event, to be known as the C.J.C.; Breeders’ Stakes, will be' 1800 m. It will be a handicap' with a maximum topweight; of 58 kg. The minimum will' be 47 kg. • i Half of the stake was pro- [ vided by the auction of stallion services held on the second day of the Easter meeting this year. The club subsidised the profit from that auction on a dollar-for-dollar basis. It is intended to conduct another auction of stallion services at the club’s Easter meeting next year and the
profits will go towards the stake for the second running of the C.J.C. Breeders’ Stakes in 1982.
