Road Angel, a Christchurch rock group, have formed themselves into a company, and have an accountant to handle the finances. ’ .
The name of the company is Rad Angel Inc., and with the exception of .rhe members’ personal musical gear it owns all the band’s props and a seven-tonne truck, which has sleeping facilities for touring. Road Angel have been together for six months, and although based in Christchurch had not played in the city until this week. They did not want to play in Christchurch first' and then disappear, ’ which is what they believe happens to most local groups.
The band have just completed a South Island tour, testing the water, before heading for bigger things. According to Andy Hoggan, the drummer, the response to the band’s tour was excellent, with invitations to return and play again. Road Angel like playing the part of rock stars. Their, gear is painted white, and with colourful clothing and lighting the act has strong visual impact. "We act the part of
rock ‘n’ roll stars, and like to put a lot of action into the songs,” Andy Hoggan said.
The group also have definite ideas on where they will head. An extensive tour of the South Island will begin late in December and end at Blenheim in mid-February. A North Island tour will follow.
“We hope to be in Australia by August,” said Bob Palmer the lead guitarist.
Neither musician would be pinned down to any particular type of music, but listed among the group’s musical influences were David Bowie, Iggy Pop, John Miles, Genesis, ana Yes. According to Andy Hog-
gan, Road Angel were to be 3ZM’s Band of the Month for December, and of the tracks laid down for the radio station two would be chosen as singles to be put out on an independent label (yet to be named.).
Road Angel will appear at the Gladstone Tavern this week.
