Aust, injunction fails
SIZPA Londoi Almost all of the 42,000 copies of a British magazine which a published extracts from documents on Australian defence and foreign policy had been distributed', before the High Court in London granted an injunction restraining publication. The: Australian Government was granted a tem-porary-injunction by Mr Justice Boreham on Friday to the .Left-wing magazine “New States-
man” from publishing the controversial documents, but by that time all but 547 copies of the magazine had been distributed, said the' editor . (Mr Bruce Page). The remaining copies of the magazine would riot be distributed. The “New Statesman” is on sale in most newsagents early on Friday morning, but the ex-parte injunction was not granted until the afternoon. The Australian Government objection was to an article headed “Kissinger’s Per-
sonal Instructions,” which claimed to contain secret Australian documents concerning the invasion of East Timor by Indonesian forces in 1975. The magazine also published a document which Mr Page said revealed the weakness of the A.N.Z.U.S. treaty between Australia, ’ New Zealand and the United States. He said that the magazine would apply this week for the injunction to be lifted. “We are going to fight this tooth and nail.”
