Slick near Emirates
Gulf countries are pressing for an emergency meeting on plans to fight a giant oil slick which threatens the coasts of five countries, according to Gulf oil sources. The slick had already contaminated beaches in Qatar, Iran and Bahrain, and was expected to hit the United Arab Emirates’ shore soon, they said. Some parts of the Saudi coast were also affected. The governments were pressing Kuwait to hold an early meeting of the council of the Kuwait Action Plan, a 1978 agreement on protecting Gulf waters from pollution., The slick came mostly from the oil rig Ron Tapmever,...which blew out ber as it was • drilling in Saudi . Arabian waters 4north of Bahrain’.—Bahrain.
