S.P.U.C. meeting

No officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Canterbury' branch of the Society for the Promotion of Community Standards on November 17 because only 12 people attended, not enough for a quorum. Between 30 and 40 people turned up afterwards to hear Mr D. M. J. Jones, the Minister of Parliament for Helensville, speak on the responsibilities of New Zealanders. The organisation’s officer will be the same as last year’s, according to a committee member, Mr N. M. Rush. The Canterbury chairman is Mr K. Kemps, of Timaru, and the Christchurch representative, Mr O. Zeizinger. Mr Rush said that the poor, attendance at the meeting had been because so many people in the community wanted somebody else to make a stand and oppose problems.
