Aid for needy
Sir, — In our papers the reminders are few that throughout the world people are dying from starvation and millions of refugees are living in the most wretched of conditions. It amazes me that the voices of our Church leaders remain so silent in condemnation of our Government’s failure to step up its overseas aid. It is willing to put us in debt a few more millions to give the motorist enough petrol to avoid rationing but not, it seems, to do anything more to feed starving human beings. A nation that puts God first could never ignore the sufferings of others, whatever the circumstances. — Yours, etc.,
