One of the less publicised ’activities of the new leader ]of the British Labour Party (Mr Foot) is his continuing support of the . National Secular Society. He IS ah atheist and has been a mem-1 ber since 1935. i
The president of the (society. Mis:. Barbara Smoker, aged 56, says that even if Mr Foot becomes Prime Minister, "we do not expect him to do everything we would like." | However, she adds that! Mr Foot is "very much on i 1 Our wave-length." The;' society is against nuclear i( weapons, hanging, and reli- [ gious indoctrination in t schools. One of its more criticised ventures is production of, “anti-Christmas" cards. For ’ about 30c there is one of Joseph standing by a crib telling the Three Wise Men: “It’s a Girl.”
