Racing has its ups and downs as shown by this photograph of the New Zealand Trotting Cup and free-for-all winner, Hands Down, at Riccarton on Saturday. All victorious at Addington, Hands 'Down found Riccarton a different line of country. While giving an exhibition with the distinguished trotter, Scotch Tar, Hands Down, driven by Peter Jones, slipped and went down on his nose. He escaped injury and later appeared in the birdcage with Scotch Tar and the Canterbury Jockey Club’s New Zealand Cup winner, Koiro Trelay. (New Zealand Cup coverage, page 32.)
