Motor report postponed for month
PA Auckland Car. companies and interested organisations have been given another month to comment on the interim report of the. Government’s motor industry report. They had complained about not having sufficient tune to comment, and the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schnei-der) has agreed to' put the deadline back to December 14. The interim report gave three directions for the car industry in New Zealand: —To allow the industry to continue in its present form, subject to the same Government controls and use as a tool of ' economic management; ... —To phase out c.k.d. assembly over five to 10 vears and meet requirements from completely built-up imports from the cheapest international sources; and —To develop an industry plan which established a policy retaining the assembly industry and making changes to improve efficiency. The Industry’s comments on the three options will be compiled in a final report to be printed early next year..
