PA Auckland Two persons are reported to have admitted making a hoax telephone call to the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon), its New Delhi, on .the night of the East Coast Bays by-eledtion. Ai£rsb|fce investigation begafewhert Mr Muldoon re* a -‘-’quite unfriendly” and "accusatory” call from a to be the unsuccessful National candidate, Dr Donald Brash.
Mr Muldoon was at first convinced the caller was Dr Brash, because the caller referred to the -Minister of Health (Mr Gair) whom Mr Muldoon kriew was to be with'Dr Brash on by-election night. The police confirmed that the calf had been made by a
"Mr Allen” from the Cardigan Bay Motel in Epsom. The motel, the police digcovered,:, was full that 'night. The gue»ts included.» sports party from Waikato, where inquiries Were made this week. - i. j j ' The police have-declined to release, any details of the investigation. ; • r - Auckland’sacting police commander, Deputy Assistant; Commissioner K. G. Sykes, confirmed yesterday that no arrest had yet been made. He said the police were making a legal study to determine .whether’an offence had been committed, and If sb, how it was to be dealt with.
