N.Z. loses place .
PA ’ Wellington Switzerland has toppled New Zealand from its long-held position as the world leader in wool consumption per head. New Zealand has for many years been the leader, among big wool-con-suming countries, in consumption per head. But the latest figures, from the. International Wool Secretariat show that among the big users, of wool in 1979, the Swiss? accounted for 2.52 kilograms per head against New Zealand’s 2.48 kilograms. , In New Zealand, the consumption per head has dropped steadily since its peak in 1974 at 4.7 kilograms. When every country in the world is considered, and not just those which use a lot of wool. Iceland would beat Switzerland.Last year, its 230,000 citizens Used an average 3.91 kilograms.
After Switzerland and New Zealand onthe “major" list are Ireland, West Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Australia. Austria, .'and Norway, in that order. ’ ‘
