Two Maori candidates
PA Masterton Two Maori candidates will contest a general seat for the first time. Mr Tom Gemmell has been selected as Labour candidate to contest the Wairarapa seat with the sitting National
member and Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Couch). It is also believed to be the first time the Labour Party has selected a Maori candidate for what is regarded as a “winnable seat.”
