Clematis appear to be flowering exceptionally well so far this spring. One of the most prominent at the moment is Clematis montana and its forms, such as the variety rubens which has rose-pink flowers, and the larger flower tetrapioid form, Tetrarose. Generally fairly rampant of growth once established, this species of clematis and its forms require very little, if any, pruning. Dead wood can be cut out to improve appearance as growth usually becomes tangled. Hard cutting back may be carried out if desired as soon as flowering is over.
