General forecast: The anti-cyclone is expected to move only slowly east, maintaining fine weather in most districts. However, the strong north-westerly . airstream over the south Tasman Sea will spread onto the South Island, bringing cloud to western South Island districts. ; Strong north-west winds will develop in exposed inI land parts of the South Isi land. It will be mild in most districts, with temperatures . five degrees or more above average in Canterbury. District forecasts: Canterbury: Fine weather; warm in the afternoon;

north-westerlies becoming strong inland; north-easter-lies.about the coast. Nelson: Fine and mild, with light winds. Marlborough: Fine mild weather; light south-east winds predominating, but northerlies developing later and freshening in the afternoon. Buller and Westland: Moderate northerlies predominating; fine at first, but becoming cloudy later. Outlook: Mainly fine in Canterbury, Nelson and Marlborough, but showers developing on the West Coast.
