After 14 years he succeeds in escaping, to find that his enemies have flourished and his beloved Mercedes has married his rival. But Dantes,, knows the, whereabouts of a large treasure, and, calling himself the Count of Monte Cristo he uses it to gain revenge on those responsible, for his imprisonment.
