Errors in report
NZPA Wellington The solicitors for Mr Duncan Maclntyre have issued the following statement: A Wellington NZPA news item reported evidence given before the Commission of Inquiry by Mr Rob Wynn. This report contains certain errors. Mr Wynn was reported as saying that Mr Maclntyre had said that a complaint had been received that field officers had refused to discuss seasonal budgets with the Fitzgeralds. The sentence went on to say "that these were a critical factor of the loan application.” At no stage in his evidence
did Mr Wynn suggest that Mr Maclntyre spoke these words or anything to this effect. The report also quoted Mr Wynn as allegedly saying that Mr Maclntyre had said that he was satisfied the Fitzgeralds had the ability to farm the undeveloped property if given the chance. Mr Wynn has specifically given evidence that Mr MacIntyre did not use the expression “if given the chance.” Nor did Mr Wynn claim that Mr Maclntyre had said, “He was satisfied that the Fitzgeralds had the ability to farm the undeveloped property.” NZPA regrets these errors.
