Riccarton colt out
Special correspondent Invercargill The Chairman, the talented Riccarton-trained three-year-old colt, is "under a cloud” according to Mrs Jan Kerr (wife of the trainer), and will not race at Gore or Rangiora this week-end. The Showoff II — Slanting colt, from a half-sister to the champion English two-year-old filly of her time in Gloria Nicky, left Invercargill yesterday morning for Christchurch. He is the first defection from the $lO,OOO Gore Guineas trial on Saturday, which now leaves a small but classy field of six. The Chairman made his three-year-old debut at the Southland meeting on Saturday and after racing back to the straight, ran on for sixth but did not work at his best in a training gallop on Tuesday morning. “He is just not 100 per cent right and it could be a while before he races again,” Mrs Kerr said. The Chairman won two oi his three starts as a juvenile and looked a good prospect for early three-year-old racin'’ as did his stablemate, Just A Rebel, which is also sidelined with Injury.- <
