This lightweight (22.5kg maximum protection suit is designed to resist high-velocity steel fragments, equivalent to the charge from an air blast fragmentation shell. Intended as body armour for bomb research and disposal personnel, the Bristol Search Suit consists of a one-piece outer smock, with strengthened collar and protective leggings, made of a durable, but flexible material. Ceramic panels,, to absorb blast, are incorporated to cover parts of the body susceptible to blast. An armoured helmet, with a reinforced visor, includes a built-in headset for contact with a control unit. The sleeves of the smock are designed so that the hands may be swiftly retracted for safety.
