Arab complaint over M.E. customs report
PA Auckland An Arab, Mr Gamal Mubarek, has laid a complaint with the Race Relations Office over what he regards as misleading information about Middle Eastern customs in the “Exporter,” the magazine of the Export Institute of New Zealand.
The magazine based its article about “do’s” and “don’ts" in the Middle East on the newsletter of a trading group. A spokesman for the group. Mr Graham Mathais. said his information was based on reports from several Arab and New Zealand businessmen with experience in the Middle East.
However, Mr Mubarek has support from Arabs in Auckland and Wellington for his complaint that the article was misleading. An investigating officer for the Race Relations Office, Mr Tainui Stephens. confirmed that the complaint had been laid.
He said that in addition to being concerned about some of the information in the article. the complainant also took exception to the fact that Arabs were depicted as an intolerant and rude people. Mr Stephens said he intended to call in an independent expert to examine some of the information regarding the complaint.
