Wings fly to baby’s rescue

NZPA-Reuter A father has described how the singer Paul McCartney rushed to the rescue of his baby girl after a car had skidded into her pram, in London. A Japanese au pair girl, Hisaka Kawahara, aged 21, who had been pushing the pram, died later in hospital from head and internal injuries.

The father, Mr Martin Millar, said his daughter, Cara, aged 14 months, was unconcious but not seriously hurt after her pram had been crushed by the car, which went out of control when its driver tried not to hit another car.

Paul McCartney, a neighbour of Mr Miller was rehearsing with his group, Wings, in a concert room at Mr Miller’s home.

“The crash happened 50 yards' from our garden entrance, and our gardener, George Burgess, saw it and ' yelled for help. "While I rushed to get an ambulance, Paul and his group went to the rescue with my wife Judith. They found the baby’s pram crushed under the front wheel of a car, and freed Cara,” Mr Miller said.
