Prince Trelay in line for Hawera success
Special correspondent. New Plymouth Prince Trelay, a big disappointment when finishing mid-field in the Waverley Cup last week, must be respected in the Furlong Handicap at Hawera today. Prince Trelay was having only his second start after a lengthy break at Waverley. If, as expected, he improves with the run he should win the first leg of the Egmont Racing Club's T.A.B. double. The Woodville trainer, Noel Eales, said when Prince Trelay was showing good form in the autumn that he expected this season would
jbe his best A son of Trelay. I Prince Trelay has shown ’ ability on most types of 1 , igoing, which may be worth: ;; remembering if the predicted ■irain eventuates. ■I Fronbo, a member of Jim [■Gibb’s Matamata stable, will ! attract plenty of support. He : 'has had a couple of runs on i’his current campaign and is . ‘ now likely to be close to ; winning form. i Few. if any. were further ; back than Brack with 4Oom ‘to run in the Waverley Cup. , She produced a brilliant fin- ■ ish to get third and in siniiI'lar form would beat most in Hwhat looks a much weaker, I‘field. 1
The New Plymouth-trained ; sprinters. Lens and 11 Vento. will be among the hardest to :; beat in ,the second leg, the Fletehef Handicap. Lens, an improver’s see- . ond at Waverley. will have the help of a full allowance ■ and, although drawn badly, has the class to win. 11 Vento won first-up on ’ the track. He hasn't raced since but his work in the interim suggests he has trained on weil. The Wanganui colt. Flaming Arrow,'won the Copper ■ Belt Stakes on the track at the Opunake meeting. He is ■,a promising type worth considerable respect.
