Novel pencil holder

Penci's not being in the right place when .. The reason may be that it is usually left where you used it last, unless somebody else has found it in the meantime. Here is a novel idea f or a which may encourage the user to - its place in the spiny animal’s back. To make the holder you will need a balloon, lots off' newspaper, paste, strong glue, a few corks and some left-over glossy enamel paint. This is what you do: Tear up pieces of newspaper into shapes a r ■ a nostaee

tamp. Blow up the balioon to make a chubby round shape. Tie the mouthpiece. Wet the pieces of paper and completely cover the;: balloon. Brush over the pap e r-covered balloon with paste and put on another layer of torn pieces of paper. Paste over the second layer of torn paper and cover again with more pieces of paper.. Continue until six or seven layers have been applied. For the last layer use the white edges ,of newspaper. Leave the newspaper shell to dry for about 24 hours. Then untie the balloon and pull it out of the shell. Cover the hole with stems of newspaper.

Cut out small holes al over i the ball. Make the holes just big enough to hold a pencil. With a sharp knife cut out and shape four pieces of cork for the hedgehog’s feet. Fix them to the base of the ball with strong white glue. Use part of a cork for a hose and fix it on firmly with glue. Colour the eyes and mouth with felt pens. Paint the body with shiny : .brightly coloured; paint. ■ J '< When the paint is dry collect up all the pencils you can find and insert them in the holes. Your pericil-spined hedgehog will be decorative, as well as being useful.
