Lady Barnett found dead

NZPA-Reuter London A; former British television personality, Lady Barnett, was found dead in the bath at her Leicestershire home yesterday. Lady Barnett, aged 62, was last Week fined $lBO for shoplifting goods valued at $2 from a local store, a charge she strenuously denied but which attracted tremendous publicity. She was found dead by a member of her staff at her home in Cassington, a village just outside Leicester.

“We will not know the cause until after a postmortem examination. But obviously we are not ruling out anything' at this stage,” said a Leicestershire police spokesman. The village • shopkeeper who reported Lady Barnett for shoplifting was stunned by her death. Mr Roger Fowkes said: “This is a terrible, terrible tragedy. I am absolutely shocked and don’t know what to say. After all, I have known her for many years, and I can’t think of anything worse happening.”
