Plenty of beds to choose from at Smiths City Market

Smiths City Market have one of the best displays of beds and bedroom suites to be seen in Christchurch, at the newly modernised main furniture showroom at 550 Colombo Street.

The company has specialised extensively in bedroom furniture and accessories for over 50 years and has over 30 different double bedroom suites on display at any one time. The promotions manager at Smiths City Market, Mr W. Baxter, says the company has always offered a wide selection and a wide variety of double beds, some with matching twin beds; co-ordinate and individual furniture pieces, and would continue to do so.

Although Smiths City Market stocks furniture from all main manufac-

turers throughout New Zealand, the majority of bedroom suites on display in the store are manufactured locally. Mr Baxter says Christchurch customers are fortunate to have locally produced furniture Of such an exceptional standard'. The local designers are renowned for the quality of their products, all of which are manufactured at comparatively competitive prices.

The most popular finish for bedroom furniture continues to be either mahogany wood-grain or a walnut stain. New Zealand native pine is becoming a popular choice in either a honey gold or a rustic pine finish. Smiths City Market staff have noticed a very marked swing to the chunky American colonial look with turned bed ends, mir-

ror stands and chunky chest of drawer handles. One of the more original themes in bedroom furniture is a mahogany wood-grain suite with rattan grain inserts on the headboard, bedside dressing tables and dressing table.

The general trend is towards larger beds, so bed heads on most bedroom suites are now manufactured 150 cm wide to accommodate the larger mattresses. . .

Customers purchasing a bedroom suite, mattress and base can complete the total image at Smiths City Market with a selection from the latest range of fashion bedwear. The bedding range of accessories includes valances, fitted sheets, duvets and duvet covers, plain or frilled pillowcases and satin sheets.
