Help needed

Sir, — I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments expressed by H. D. Cade (October 17) regarding the callous and uncaring behaviour of some Christchurch

citizens when confronted with an emergency. Some time ago an elderly woman friend of mine had the unfortunate experience of being knocked down in the street during the busy lunch hour by a young man on a bicycle. He stayed just long enough to ask her if she was all right and then quickly' sped away. The sorry part of the whole incident was that not one other person came to offer her assistance. We need to examine our consciences and ask ourselves: “Are we like the Levite who passed by on the other side?” — Yours, etc* D. MARSHALL. Ashburton, October 17, 1980.
