Volunteer work for at least four more week-ends would be needed on the tug, he said, to complete engineering and deck work, not including painting which was also needed. When all is ready, it is intended that the old tug will steam to Akaroa to operate day time trips there for the public for a week following Christmas.' It is planned to operate three sailings each day during her ' stay in Akaroa. Before that, the tug will have to comply with a number of Ministry of Transport regulations. For example, no passengers will be allowed on the vqgages |d and from Lyttelton and Akaroa, adequate berthage will have to be found, at Akaroa, and, in effect, she will have to be certificated for “home” waters, rather than the river licence she now operates under. Two crews will be required to man her while at Akaroa and problems of fuel and water supply have yet to be solved along with crew accommodation. Present plans call for her to sail ■ from Lyttelton on Boxing Day and return on January 2. Regular Lyttelton Harbour cruises are expected to begin near the end of November.
