Cot deaths prompt research appeal
PA . New Plymouth Two cot deaths at Bell Block, near New Plymouth, have prompted a national appeal to raise funds for research into such, deaths, the cause of which is not known. The Bell Block section of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers started the appeal after grandchildren of two of its members died suddenly last year. The proposal to raise money for research was taken up by the North Taranaki branch and was put to the W.D.F.F.’s annual conference at Dunedin in July. The North Taranaki branch president, Mrs D. Langnian, of Bell Block, said that so far about $lOOO had been raised in the area and several other branches had raised more than $lOOO. The fund-raising would continue until May, 1981. when the money would be given to the National Children’s Health Research Foundation for cot-death research.
