Car industry report

PA Wellington The Government expects to receive the final interdepartmental study report on the car-assembly industry at the end of next month, the Under-Secrteary of Trade and Industry (Mr Allen) told Parliament has said.

Mr Allen said that publicity about the future of the industry had stemmed from details contained in an interdepartmental interim report. Car assemblers, component manufacturers, and trade unions had been asked for their comments by November 14. The Government would only consider the options open to the industry after it had received the final report, he said. Mr Allen was replying to a question by Mr R. L. Bailey (Labour, Heretaunga).
