Burnside, Y.M.C.A. lead summer basketball
Burnside A and Y.M.C.A. B are clear leaders with two wins each I after the first two rounds of the men’s A grade summer league basketball competition at Cowles Stadium. Most of the teams are a mixture of division one' and two players from the winter competition. Deep Freeze is the extra team. ''' V.M.C.A. A looked the team to beat after it chalked up a decisive 118-63 win over a weakened Suburbs team, but it succumbed
to a combined Y.M.C.A. B team, 68-50. the following week. Halswell A and Mairehau B lead the Women’s A grade with two wins, each while Rebels are one point ‘ behind after drawing their game with Mairehau A 6262. A record total of 94 entries (men and women) have been included in this years summer league, most interest coming from the many lower grade social teams and a number of new entries from sports clubs, social clubs and groups of
friends. Sammer league will last seven, weeks during October and November and will be played at Cowles and Pioneer Stadiums. A pre-season league is planned for February and Starch.
