Butter rise predicted
PA Wellington Labour’s spokesman on Consumer Affairs, Mr B. P. MacDonell, has predicted that butter would cost more than $1 before the end of the year. He was commenting on Monday’s price rise which increased the cost of ha'fkilogram packs from 79c to 87c. He said it was a‘disgrace that butter.should,become a luxury item in one of the great dairying nations of the world. Prices of all food items would rise as a result, he said. According to Mr MacDonell, Labour would restore a flexible stabilisation system for the price of butter. When Labour left office in 1975 butter was 36c a 500gram packet, Mr. MacDonell said.
