The economy
Sir, — The Marxist idea of taxing the rich to give to the poor does not work* There will always be a greater number of middle and lower class people and each person’s share of the wealth from the rich would be very small indeed. 1110 progressive income tax system which is in force in this country is a Marxist idea and is designed to equate all incomes by redistribution through Government departments. The problem is, to do this, the Government consumes $2 for each $1 redistributed. It would be better to let all persons earn or produce what they are unable to, and by doing that improve their own living standards and enable others to do the same through their own production, rather than drag the rich or high producers dofrn to lower levels through heavy progressive income tax. — Yours, etc., E. S. DRAW., October 3, 1980.
