Ban back on Soviet boat work
PA Nelson A Nelson engineering company has reimposed its work ban on the Russian fishing fleet after another breakdown in negotiations with Moscow on how payment for work should be made.
One waterfront official at the week-end said that the company had withdrawn all its men and equipment from the two 699-ton Soviet trawlers, SRTM 8460 and SRTM 8458.
Mr J. H. Rogers, finance manager for Anchor Dorman, the company doing the work, refused to comment on the ban.
The company entered an agreement with the Russians, believed to be worth between $500,000 and 81 million, in August to do I repair and survey work on [lB trawlers and factory ships working New Zealand waters. However, the agree-* ment has become “bogged down in bureaucratic channels in Moscow” and has never been signed, according to one industry source. “Payment for work done is not coming through,” the source said.
The dispute is confined to Anc h o r-D orman and Moscow.
